Engineering Services

ARC Technology's diverse staff offers a wide range of development services. ARC makes extensive use of in house CAD, CNC machining, and specialized testing equipment to decrease prototype development cycle times and turn ideas into reality. Working closely with an in-house machine shop allows ARC to avoid the waiting time and overhead normally created when using an outside machine shop. ARC has extensive experience in areas as varied as high voltage pulsed power systems, transient protection systems, and custom instrumentation. Rather than building systems that are merely functional in a laboratory setting ARC can also build the custom controls, electromechanical systems, and packaging to make these systems practical and easy to use in the field.

Instrumentation and Measurement

High Voltage Pulse Diagnostics

Obtaining accurate electrical transient pulse measurements can be challenging. Difficulty increases significantly as voltage increases and rise times decrease. ARC Technology has expertise in high voltage rapid transient measurements with proven technologies, and is currently researching new technologies to improve existing measurement ranges. ARC Technology can fabricate custom diagnostics for high voltage pulse measurements on printed circuit boards, and standard 75Ω or 50Ω coax cable such as RG214, RG220, etc.

High Voltage Transient Protection

ARC Technology has developed various systems to protect circuits from high voltage transients. Traditional protection systems utilize methods such as solid state limiters and gas discharge tubes. These methods often allow a small portion of the transient to pass before the protection circuit becomes active and protect the system from the remainder of the pulse. ARC is developing an electro-optic protection system that provides protection against the entire pulse by activating the protection circuit before the transient reaches it. This system provides active protection while remaining passive from an operation and power standpoint.

Pulsed Power Systems

                                          Pulsers

ARC Technology can provide Marx Generators which generate a high voltage pulse by storing electrical energy in capacitors and discharging them quickly in series. Transmission line pulsers are available utilizing inductors and capacitors. Pulse Forming lines are also available. These can be used to drive high powered magnetron sources and other vacuum tube devices requiring a high voltage pulse. Further applications are radar, EW, and medical research. ARC pulsers can be made within the following specifications although all specifications are not concurrent. Depending on your requirements the pulsed power systems will be made in open air, enclosed, or on a PCB.

Electro-Optics

ARC-Technology can fabricate pulsers which utilize Electro-Optic switches. These laser triggered switches have a fast rise and are nearly immune to electromagnetic interference.

                              Antenna Design

ARC-Technology can configure an antenna for your UWB pulse needs. Many antennas have been utilized in past systems for pulsed power UWB generation. The antennas can be designed for any impedance and have center frequencies ranging from 100MHZ to 10GHZ. Gain depends on the size and type of antenna utilized
